PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guide a photographer who photographs himself so as to obtain a predetermined photographic result, even when the photographer cannot confirm preview images. SOLUTION: A camera unit 201 acquires image data of a subject in a self-portrait mode, prior to photography of the subject. A face area detector 203 detects a face area in an image based upon the obtained image data. A correction assistance information notifying unit 204 instructs the user to correct the position or the direction of the camera unit, according to whether the facial area is in a target area in a photographic area, as a result of the facial area detection.
