<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus capable of automatically enhancing images processed by a digital camera. <P>SOLUTION: The system includes: a source 220 of digital images; an image memory 202; a gamma transformation module 222 for transforming the gamma of a stored digital image to a new gamma value chosen from a set of predefined test gamma values; image evaluation modules 204, 206 and 208 each for measuring first and second parameters of the gamma transformed image; an image quality function computation module for computing an image quality value based on the first and second parameters received from the image evaluation modules and a predefined function of these parameters; and a control module 212 which sets the test gamma value to be used, keeps a record of the image quality value of the test gamma value and sends the gamma value with the best image quality value to a printer so as to print the image using that gamma value when it is judged that all the test gamma values included in the predetermined set of test gamma values have been evaluated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
