A character input method of using the jog dial of a driver information system is provided to select a phoneme by rotating the jog dial and to input the selected phoneme by pressing the jog dial. A phoneme is selected by rotating a jog dial to the left and right directions, and the selected phoneme is inputted by pushing down the jog dial. The Hangul double consonants and alphabet capital letters are converted by pushing the jog dial upwardly. A dash is added to a vowel by pushing the jog dial downwardly. Korean/English special characters are switched alternately by pushing the jog dial to the one direction or the other direction.
