PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress disturbances or distortions of an interpolated image occurring in the vicinity of the end of an effective image, e.g. the end of screen, caused by the frame rate conversion (FRC) of motion compensated type. SOLUTION: The image processor comprises a motion vector detection circuit 2 for detecting the motion vector of an input image signal, and a circuit 5 for deciding whether a position for detecting the motion vector is near the end portion of an effective image and lowers the strength of motion compensation processing at an FRC section 10 for a predetermined region, including an effective image end portion, as compared with other regions according to the decision results from the effective image end portion deciding circuit 5.
