摘要
601,973. Making compound race-rings ; casting. KENDALL, G. H. Feb. 1, 1945, No. 2563. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] In a process of making a bearing race-ring, an undersized ring having an unfinished raceway has bonded to it a more workable material to bring the ring to the required size, after which the raceway is finished as by grinding and lapping; Raceways 12 and 13 are formed in rings 10 and 11 of a hard, difficultly workable alloy. A layer of a more workable metal or of a plastic is bonded to each of the surfaces 18, 19 and if desired also to the whole or part of the side surfaces of the rings 10 and 11, as shown in Fig. 2. The softer and more workable material may be extended as at 37, Fig. 5, to form a mounting support. After the formation of the outer softer covering, the sides of the bearing ring are brought to the required finished size by pressing between dies 40, 43 and the outer surface 22 by means of a sleeve 44 moved downwardly over the surface, Fig. 6. The edge of the softer material may be spun over at 30, to hold a dust shield 29, Fig. 4. The softer material may be bonded around the hard metal insert 10, 11 by die-casting or centrifugal casting in a mould, part of which is shown at 50, 51 and 52, Fig. 5, by the moulding of a suitable plastic, by moulding and sintering a metal powder, by electrolytic deposit or by building-up by metal spraying. For comparatively large bearings and where the softer material extends only over the curved surface of the ring, the backing may be bonded to the insert by brazing. In a modification, the rings are produced from a composite tube by cutting transversely and leaving the outer softer layer of greater width than the inner hard layer. Specification 570,141 is referred to.
