摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an output energy as high as several hundreds of mJ per pulse with a simple arrangement in a solid-state laser device which generates a laser beam of wavelengths in a 2.94μm band. SOLUTION: A solid-state laser device 1 comprises a solid-state laser rod 11 of an erbium-yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) crystal, a high reflective mirror 3 and an output mirror 4 forming a resonator arranged at both ends of the solid-state laser rod 11, and a semiconductor laser module 12 for illuminating the side surface of the solid-state laser rod 11 with exciting light Lp having a wavelength component included in an absorption wavelength band (0.96μm band) when an energy level of Er<SP>3+</SP>transits from<SP>4</SP>I<SB>15/2</SB>to<SP>4</SP>I<SB>11/2</SB>. The peak wavelength of a laser beam L is included in a luminous wavelength band (2.94μm band) when the energy level of Er<SP>3+</SP>is transits from<SP>4</SP>I<SB>11/2</SB>to<SP>4</SP>I<SB>13/2</SB>, and the peak wavelength of the exciting light Lp is longer than the maximum absorption peak wavelength included in the absorption wavelength band of the Er<SP>3+</SP>.
