<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device using a CMOS image sensor wherein a dynamic range is widened with a satisfactory S/N maintained, and adaptability to the still-image photographing of a moving object is ensured. <P>SOLUTION: The image pickup device comprises: image pickup elements wherein a number of pixels are arranged in a matrix; a mechanical shutter having a shutter curtain traveling so as to light-shield the pickup elements; a reset scanning section for selecting a subject row of the matrix of pixels of the image pickup elements, sequentially executing a charge reset operation for pixels within a row for each row, and executing reset scanning to change a starting time of charge storage for each row; and a control section for causing the reset scanning to be executed more than once while changing the subject row prior to the traveling of the shutter curtain, and controlling a time from the reset scanning to the completion of the light-shield of the shutter curtain as an exposure time of pixels within the subject row. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
