A waste storage device is provided including a waste storage cassette rec eiving chamber (132) for receiving a cassette (172) rotatable within the cha mber and containing tubing for enveloping waste. The device further includes a waste inlet and a throat area therebetween, wherein a releasable gripping assembly (155, 158, 159, 168) is provided in the throat area and arranged f or actuation between a released configuration defining an aperture for passa ge of waste therethrough and a gripping configuration defining a restriction in the throat area.
