PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain tensioner capable of effectively absorbing tension of a chain, during operation of an engine, without causing looseness in the chain, when restarting the engine. SOLUTION: A chain pressing rod 12 is movably inserted in the axial direction into a bottomed cylindrical housing 10. A wear ring 11 arranged on the outer periphery of the rod 12 is energized by a return spring 24 arranged in the housing. A nut member 19 coaxial with the housing is movably arranged in the axial direction between the wear ring and the bottom 17 of the housing. The nut member is energized by a ring spring 27 arranged between the nut member and the bottom of the housing. A screw rod 21 engaging with its nut member by a screw, is arranged between the rod and the bottom of the housing. The screw rod is energized by a spring 28 arranged between the screw rod and the bottom of the housing. A constitution of allowing an end surface 31 of the screw rod to abut on the rod, is adopted for the chain tensioner. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
