PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To focus on plural types of optical disks irrespective of a movable range of a pickup by an actuator. SOLUTION: The optical disk device is provided with, in addition to a turntable 11, a pickup 13 and an actuator 15, a determining means 31 for determining the type of an optical disk mounted on the turntable 11, and switching mechanisms 21 to 25 and 32 for switching, on the basis of the type determined by the determining means 31, a distance between the optical disk 2 mounted on the turntable 11 and the pickup 13 to a preset distance for each type of an optical disk 2 to be close to a focus distance.
