PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent establishing of an unintentional drive stage at switching of drive stages, and to provide a variable valve mechanism which is superior in a switching response of the drive stages. SOLUTION: Oil pressure to a first hydraulic supply passage 10a is supplied with a designated time difference t1 after oil pressure to a third hydraulic supply passage 10c is released. Then, a first connection pin 13a starts to slightly enter into a first guide hole 11a by repulsion force of a compressed coil spring 12a as illustrated in the figure 8(a) when oil pressure (namely, oil pressure applied to a second guide hole 11b) to the third hydraulic supply passage 10c is released. Further, a first connection pin 13a is pushed into the first guide hole 11a as illustrated in the figure 8(b) when oil pressure to the first hydraulic supply passage 10a is supplied, and an end of a second connection pin 13b starts to enter into a second guide hole 11b.
