PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a printing position or a size of a printed character in the conveyance direction constant irrespective of a conveyance speed of a printing material by automatically detecting the change of the conveyance speed without using an encoder, and by then automatically varying the printing position or the size of the character in the conveyance direction in response to the change of the conveyance speed. SOLUTION: By using a sensor for detecting a printing material, a conveyance speed of a printing material is detected, and then a printing position or a size of a printed character is made constant irrespective of the conveyance speed.
