PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning unit in which printing quality is improved by keeping a scanning width constant and to provide an image forming apparatus furnished with the scanning unit. SOLUTION: A laser printer is provided with the scanning unit 16 in which the surface of a photoreceptor drum is exposed and scanned with a laser beam emitted from a laser light emitting part 100 and deflected on a polygon mirror 19. The laser printer is also provided with a motor driver 110 which adjusts the rotation speed of the polygon mirror 19 so that the scanning speed on the surface of the photoreceptor drum becomes a preliminarily decided scanning speed.
