PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a pre-transfer exposure means for exposing image carrier is disposed between a developing means for developing an electrostatic latent image, held on the image carrier into a toner image and a transfer means for transferring the toner image, developed by the developing means, to the transfer material, with the apparatus being designed so as to maintain the performance of the pre-transfer exposure means over a long period, while making the image forming apparatus more compact. SOLUTION: The upper part of the side wall (on the transfer means 6 side) of a casing 41 defining the shape of the appearance of the developing means 4 is inclined outward at a required angle. A mounting part 41a, formed integrally with the casing 41, is attached obliquely to the external face of the inclined part. A pre-transfer exposure means 5 of a thin plate form, in which a plurality of LEDs 51 are arrayed to form a light-emitting face 52a, is fitted to the mounting part 41a.
