PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately perform focusing control even when optical distortion due to the aberration of an optical system is found in a subject image in an imaging apparatus which performs focusing control for a face area. SOLUTION: Face detection processing for deciding a focusing control area is performed to an image signal obtained after development processing. Even if the imaging apparatus has a function to perform distortion correction in order to form an image for display, the focusing control is performed in the focusing control area based on a result of face detection depending on the image signal in a non-corrected state not on the image data obtained after correcting the distortion.
