PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary encoder in which the soldering strength of the light receiving elements mounted on a package is secured. SOLUTION: The light receiving elements are stored on the package 21, the lower corner of the side wall surfaces which is provided with a plurality of electrodes 22 provided on the left and right symmetric wall surfaces and connected electrically are chamfered and the auxiliary electrodes 24 for widening the connection area are provided in the chamfered part 23, the electrodes 22 and the auxiliary electrode 24 and the circuit pattern 25 are connected by the solder, the surface mounting strength of the light receiving elements to the circuit substrate can be improved.
