<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet metal positioning structure capable of increasing the thickness at the minimum thickness place of a punching die used when the opening is formed by punching press work, preventing wear and damage, improving the working accuracy of an opening, and further surely aligning sheet metals each other, and to provide an image forming apparatus using the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the sheet metal positioning structure 1, bulging portions 6 oppositely provided in the opening 5 formed in one sheet metal 3b holds a laminar projecting portion 4 formed in the other sheet metal 3a, in a thickness direction, to align the sheet metals 3 each other. The bulging portions 6 have at least one bulging portion 6a on one side which is in contact with one surface of the projecting portion 4 and a bulging portion 6b on the other side which bulges to oppose to the bulging portion 6a on one side on right and left both sides across the bulging portions 6a on one side and is in contact with the other surface of the projecting portion 4. As necessary, the length in the width direction of the opening 5 is made to be almost equal to that in the width direction of the projecting portion 4.
