PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor which is reduced in internal resistance so as to improve in charge/discharge efficiency. SOLUTION: The electric double layer capacitor is provided with an electrolyte interposed between polarizing electrodes. The electrolyte contains spirobi-pyrrolidinium as a solute and contains a mixed solvent composed of ethylene carbonate and dimethyl carbonate, or a mixed solvent composed of propylene carbonate, ethylene carbonate, and dimethyl carbonate, wherein the mixing ratio of propylene carbonate is 20% or above, as a solvent, whereby the electrolyte is improved in ion conductivity, and the capacitor is reduced in internal resistance and improved in charge/discharge efficiency.
