PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processor having an HDD, which is improved in power saving effect without degrading the life of the HDD. SOLUTION: If a power turn-on frequency or a power turn-off frequency of the HDD in a predetermined duration is limited to an upper limit value, an allowable value indicative of a frequency to which turning-on or turning-off operation of the HDD is permitted in the predetermined duration, is stored, and upon input of a power turn-off request of the HDD, a power source of the HDD is turned off if the balance of the stored allowable value remains. Then the balance of the stored allowable value, remaining when the power source of the HDD is turned off, is subtracted. When the predetermined duration has elapsed, a value obtained by adding the balance of the allowable value, remaining when the predetermined duration has elapsed, to the allowable value set at every predetermined duration, is set as a new allowable value.
