PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head maintenance apparatus and a head maintenance method by which the favorable wiping of a printing head becomes possible by not causing the splashing of an ink from a wiper, and to provide an inkjet printer using them. SOLUTION: This head maintenance apparatus 40 is equipped with the wiper 51 composed of an elastic material which can approach and separate from the printing head 21 which reciprocates in the printing width direction. The head maintenance apparatus 40 wipes off a nozzle forming surface 21a by moving the printing head 21 in the printing width direction in a state that the wiper 51 is in contact with the printing head 21. The wiper 51 is separated from a capturing member 24 of the printing head 21 before the capturing member 24 of the printing head 21 is removed in the printing width direction after the nozzle forming surface 21a has been wiped off.
