PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of improving EVF environment when a photographer performs focus adjustment by discriminating between timing to enlarge and display a focusing area and timing to display an entire video image frame. SOLUTION: An optical image generated by passing through a lens group 11 from a subject 1 is converted into an imaging signal by an imaging device 13, and the focusing area is detected by a focusing area detection part 20. The physical movement or optical displacement of the lens group 11 is detected by a focus lens movement detector 16, and the adjustment stage of the lens group 11 is discriminated by the focusing stage discriminating part 17 on the basis of a detection signal output from the focus lens movement detector 16.
