PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval apparatus capable of preventing an information leak from occurring when performing image retrieval. SOLUTION: The image retrieval apparatus 20 comprises an image retrieval part 20d for retrieving, from image data stored in an image information storage part 20c, image data similar to target retrieval image data obtained by optically reading a target retrieval image, in response to a retrieval request instruction from a retrieval requester. The image retrieval apparatus 20 notifies the retrieval requester of retrieval results including retrieved image data acquired from the image information storage part and/or read requester attribute information corresponding to the retrieved image data, when the image data corresponding to the target retrieval image data can be retrieved and the retrieval requester is a predetermined specific requester; and notifies the retrieval requester of the retrieval results indicating accomplishment of retrieval of the image data corresponding to the target retrieval image data, when the image data corresponding to the target retrieval image data can be retrieved and the retrieval requester is not the predetermined specific requester.
