PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a damper which lifts driven wheels without worsening fuel economy and stabilizes the attitude of a vehicle during freight loading works. SOLUTION: The damper which comprises: a motion converting mechanism H which converts a linear motion into a rotational motion; and a motor M to which the rotational motion is transferred, is equipped with a lock mechanism L which prevents expansion and contraction. The driven wheels is thereby lifted with no need for hydraulic pressure sources such as a hydraulic pump, and fuel economy is not worsen. The damper demonstrates a damping capability when placing the driven wheels without lifting. The damper carries two capabilities, one as a driven wheel lift, the other as a damper, and becomes very efficient since a special apparatus only for lifting the driven wheels is not needed.
