PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust system for an inline multi-cylinder engine, which is transversely mounted in an engine room in the front of a vehicle, and in which the exhaust port of each cylinder is arranged facing a vehicle rear side, accessories of the engine are arranged in adjacent positions, and an exhaust manifold is arranged apart from the engine accessories without involving large increase of the dimension in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle. SOLUTION: Openings E, F, G of a collecting part 26 are arranged in a cylinder bank direction of the engine 10, are inclined to the engine 10 as viewed in a plane, so that the more closely an opening is positioned, to an alternator 40 of the engine accessory the more remotely it is positioned from the engine 10. An independent pipe part 22 closest to the alternator 40 is formed in a curved shape whose intermediate part 22c partly overlaps with the intermediate part 23c of an adjacent independent pipe part 23 to bypass the alternator 40 when viewed from the vehicle rear side.
