PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a diphenylalanine-Ni(II) complex of high purity represented by formula (3) useful as a synthetic intermediate for an optically active diphenylalanine compound in a high yield. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a production method of a compound represented by the formula (3), which includes reacting a compound represented by the formula (2) with a diphenylmethyl halide compound represented by the formula (1) in the presence of alkali metal alkoxide. In the formula, each symbol is as defined in the specification, *1 and *2 each show an asymmetric carbon atom, and the configuration of the asymmetric carbon atom of *1 and *2 is (S, S) or (R, R).
