A television receiver (1) wherein CM broadcasts can be determined from among received television broadcasts, without complicating the structure of the CM broadcast determination, and further their sound levels can be controlled. There are included a silence detecting means (11), a scene change detecting means (12), a video/audio change point detecting means (13), a first characteristic amount extracting means (14), a second characteristic amount extracting means (15), a comparing/determining means (16) and a sound level controlling means (17). The comparing/determining means (16) compares a first characteristic amount of the sound characteristic amount of a television signal prior to the detection of a video/audio change point with a second characteristic amount of the sound characteristic amount of a television signal following the detection of the video/audio change point to determine whether a predetermined condition is satisfied. The sound level controlling means (17) controls, based on a determination result of the comparing/determining means (16), the output level of the audio of the television signal.
