PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly evaluate a photosynthesis function of a photosynthesis sample contained in an evaluation sample. SOLUTION: The evaluation sample containing the photosynthesis sample is irradiated with the first excitation light in the first irradiation condition, when the evaluation sample is evaluated. The evaluation sample is then irradiated with the second excitation light in the second irradiation condition with a light energy integrated value lower compared with that in the first irradiation condition. A light emission quantity of delay light generated from the evaluation sample is measured thereafter. Finally the evaluation sample is drawn out based on the light emission quantity measured in a measuring step, and the evaluation sample is evaluated based on an evaluation value and a standard data. The second irradiation condition is changed therein to measure light emission quantities after the first excitation step and the second excitation step, and the evaluation sample is evaluated based on the evaluated values corresponding to the measured light emission quantities and the standard data corresponding to the evaluated values.
