<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more save energy in the power section of an image forming apparatus and therefore the image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The power section 130 is divided in two of a first power supply 128 for supplying power to a controller section 115 and a second power supply 129 for supplying the power to an engine section 120. The first power supply 128 has a supercapacitor on a secondary side and alternately performs the intermittent oscillation and oscillation stop of an oscillation circuit on a primary side, in accordance with the potential of the supercapacitor. Concretely, the first power supply stops the intermittent oscillation of the oscillation circuit on the primary side, when the potential of the supercapacitor is a predetermined value or above and starts the intermittent oscillation of the oscillation circuit on the primary side, when the potential of the supercapacitor falls below the predetermined value. In the oscillation circuit on the primary side of the second power supply, oscillation frequency during standby of the image forming apparatus is made lower than that during an image forming operation.
