PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display which is capable of high luminance display with low power consumption, and maintains high luminance and superior contrast even under a bright environment, such as outdoor daylight. SOLUTION: The plasma display panel 1 includes a front panel 3 which has a front substrate 14, a bus electrode 12, and a transparent electrode 11, a rear panel 2 which has a rear substrate 4 and an address electrode 5, and a gap 16 between facing planes which is formed between the front panel 3 and the rear panel 2 and contains a discharge gas sealed in the gap 16. The display panel also includes a polarized light absorbing layer 15 which transmits light oscillating in a specific direction among incident light but absorbs light oscillating in the direction perpendicular to the specific direction, and a polarized light reflection layer 10 which transmits light oscillating in a specific direction but reflects light oscillating in the direction perpendicular to the specific direction. The polarized light reflection layer 10 having a transmission axis almost parallel with the transmission axis of the polarized light absorbing layer 15 is disposed to be closer to the rear panel 2 than the polarized light absorbing layer 15 and the bus electrode 12.
