PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a grid polarizer having a wide area superior in polarization separation performance in an efficient and simple process. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the grid polarizer includes a process for forming a film comprising light absorption material on an irregularity structure by physical deposition by arranging a plurality of ridge-like projections in a state where the ridge-like projections of height H extending slenderly and linearly are mutually substantially parallel separated on at least one surface of a plate-like transparent base substance, and forming the irregularity structure in which an interval T between groove opening parts formed between the ridge-like projections is 200 nm or less and an interval D between grooves at a height level of H/2 is H/1.2 or less.
