PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the neutron irradiation for structural materials, especially sheaths, and hafnium as a neutron absorbing element, the flow of coolant and the behavior characteristics in terms of the strength, water permeability and stretchability in each region of a control rod over an operation cycle from the start through the stop of operation. SOLUTION: The control rod is equipped with load supporting members 21 which support the load in the inhibition of an axial movement of the neutron absorbing elements and the inhibition of their movement and spacing members 26 which retain the spaces between the neutron absorbing elements 10 facing each other in each sheath 7.
