Provided is an agitating method for sufficiently agitating a mixture of a solution of buffer liquid or the like and a substance to be detected, without arranging an exclusive agitating means, in measurement wherein a crystal oscillator is used. The crystal oscillator is oscillated at a prescribed frequency. At the time of measuring variation of the frequency due to a substance brought into contact with the crystal oscillator, the crystal oscillator is permitted to agitate a liquid containing the substance at frequencies from the prescribed frequency to other different frequency higher than a fundamental wave oscillation frequency.
