609,622. Windows. CHESTON, A. S., CHESTON, B., and OLDHAM, F. A. M. March 19, 1946, No 8456. [Class 20(iii)] A mechanism for a vertically-sliding window comprises a carrier member 6 attached either, as shown, to the window panel, or to a stationary part and housing a volute spring 7, together with a lifting lever 11, which moves angularly as the window is raised or lowered, and is pivoted at one end to the housing at a point 10 displaced from the rotatable hub 8 of the spring, and has the other end displaceably anchored, for example by pivoting to a link 12. A flexible member 16 passing around the hub 8 and connected to the lever 11 causes the spring to exert a pull,on the lever at an acute angle to it. In the form shown, the flexible member comprises a chain 16 attached to a sprocket 15 eccentrically mounted on the spring hub and to a link 18 pivoted to the lever 11. The degree of balance of the window at various positions can be predetermined by giving the sprocket 15 an appropriate cam-like form. |
