<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst containing noble metal particles having an excellent catalytic activity carried by a carbon substrate by making the carbon substrate to uniformly carry fine noble metal particles with an excellent dispersibility. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst includes noble metal particles carried by the carbon substrate. The average size of the noble metal particles is 3 nm or less, and in the elements present in the surface of the carbon substrate, the number ratio of nitrogen atoms to oxygen atoms is 10% or less and the number ratio of silicon atoms to oxygen atoms is 40% or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
