<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode binder capable of improving a heavy load discharge performance by having a sufficient core strength at the positive electrode active material and preventing contact failure between the positive electrode active materials at the time of pressing into the positive electrode can. <P>SOLUTION: The alkaline battery has a potassium hydroxide electrolytic solution and a negative electrode agent (5) filled in a positive electrode can (1) of hollow pillar-shape in which a positive electrode mixture (3) having a positive electrode active material of either one of manganese dioxide and nickel oxy-hydroxide, a positive electrode binder, and potassium hydroxide is pressed.
