PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adapter which can attach a compact HDD cartridge. SOLUTION: One of hard disk drive cartridge 2, 3 which is smaller than a hard disk drive cartridge having a prescribed size and at least different depth is attached selectively in a cartridge attachment part 12f of a case 11 whose external shape is almost same as a hard disk drive cartridge of the prescribed size in which a connector 4 is attached to an insertion direction front end plane side. One of the hard disk drive cartridge 2 or 3 is locked to the case 11 by a lock/unlock mechanism part of the HDD cartridge while respective connectors attached to the respective insertion direction front end plane sides of two kinds of hard disk drive cartridges 2, 3 face an opening part 12b1 for connector formed at an insertion direction front end plane 12b at a front part of the cartridge attachment part 12f.
