PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which reduces variations in the surface pressure during pressure contact of a fixing belt and a pressure belt, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with the same. SOLUTION: The fixing device has a fixing belt 241 and a pressure belt 242, that is to be laid across a plurality of the rollers in a tensioned condition, and a pair of pressure contact members of a fixing belt side pressure contact member AS1 disposed on the inner side of the fixing belt 241 and a pressure-belt side pressure contact member AS2 disposed on the inner side of the pressure belt, in which the roller adjacent to the fixing belt side pressure contact member AS1 and the roller adjacent to the pressure-belt side pressure contact member AS2 abut against each other; and the pair of the pressure contact members come into pressure contact with each other, to thereby form a nip section. At least, the one pressure contact member out of the pair of the pressure contact members is formed of an elastic member and is so constituted that the spacing from the opposed pressure contact member is large in the thick portion of the thickness of the elastic member and is small in the spacing from the facing pressure contact member in the thin portion of the thickness of the elastic member.
