PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve gear for an internal combustion engine, which accurately adjusts a lift amount in a small valve lift region by using a structure wherein a screw shaft can be freely bent by a universal joint. SOLUTION: In this valve gear, the screw shaft 62 is freely swung by the universal joint 72, and control rotation from an output shaft part 61a of a rotation drive source 60 is transmitted through rotation of the shaft screw and an arm member 45, the control shaft 22 is driven, and a valve lift amount is continuously variable in a range of the minimum to the maximum. A movable rangeθformed by the bent state of the screw shaft when set in the minimum valve lift amount and the bent state of the screw shaft when set in the maximum valve lift amount while having the universal joint as a fulcrum is sorted so that an extension line T formed by extending an axis of an output shaft part of the rotation drive source and passing the universal joint passes a spot biased to a small lift region R2 in the region.
