A method for controlling record in a digital video recorder is provided to encode a camera image signal into MPEG frames, detect the noise components of the MPEG frames, perform the down scaling of the MPEG frames to reduce the noise components if the detected noise components exceed a reference value, and record the down scaled MPEG frames in an HDD, thereby preventing the noise components included to the MPEG frames from being recorded in the HDD. A method for controlling record in a digital video recorder comprises the following steps of: receiving a camera image signal and performing the digital video signal processing of the received camera image signal(S10); encoding the camera image of digital signal processed video data into MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) frames(S11); comparing the MPEG frames of an I-picture with the MPEG frames of a B-picture or a P-picture to detect noise components(S12); checking whether the detected noise components exceed a reference noise component value(S13); enabling a down scaler to lower the resolution of the MPEG frames(S14); and recording the down scaled MPEG frame in an HDD(Hard Disk Drive)(S15).
