The method involves arranging a tubular or rod-shaped ceramic body as a fuse carrier between pole caps (4), which are arranged on a front side of an electric circuit. A melting conductor (3) is surrounded or covered by a substance, which is varied in such a manner by effect of heating during melting of the melting conductor. An operability of a fuse (1) is made visible through its reaction products at a surface of the fuse carrier extensively or at multiple positions. Cohesion of the fuse carrier is distorted during melting of the melting conductor. An independent claim is also included for a fuse comprising a tubular or rod-shaped ceramic body as fuse carriers.
