CULTURING METHOD OF PLANT ROOTS AND PRODUCION METHOD OF 5-HYDROXYMETHYL-2-FURALDEHYDE USING THE SAME

A method for producing 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde(HMF) is provided to mass-produce the HMF with high yield and high purity at relatively low cost using an effective cultivation technique of a plant root. A method for producing HMF comprises the steps of: (a) culturing plant roots in a mixture culture medium consisting of at least one culture medium selected from the group consisting of Murashige and Skoog(MS) medium, Gamborg B5 medium, Heller medium, Linsmair & Skoog medium, Litvay medium and Nitsch medium and a saccharide compound at a temperature of 20-40 deg.C for 5-60 days; and (b) producing the HMF using the cultured plant roots, wherein the plant is Pedaliaceae or Labiatae and the saccharide compound is at least one kind selected from the group consisting of sucrose, glucose, fructose and xylose. A method for culturing the plant roots comprises a step of promoting the plant root growth by culturing the plant roots using the mixture culture medium at a temperature of 20-40 deg.C.
