A backpressure-protected valve suitable for subsea well treatment chemical injection applications comprises a gate valve 68, a check valve 26 and a pressure compensator 76 responsive to ambient hydrostatic pressure. The check valve 26 comprises a poppet valve in a detachable outlet body 14. The pressure compensator 76 comprises a piston 88 in cylinder 86. The portion of the cylinder 86 on one side of the piston 88 is exposed to seawater whereas the portion of the cylinder 94 on the opposing side of the piston is filled with a selected hydraulic fluid. Thus the valve actuator is not exposed to the corrosive and contaminating effects of seawater. |
