The procedure for joining a jockey wheel (1) with a coupling body (2) in the manufacture of motor vehicle gear box, comprises producing a projection (5, 6) in a joining area (4) of the coupling body and/or the jockey wheel, and connecting the jockey wheel and the coupling body axially by a friction welding with one another. During the friction welding, the coupling body and/or the jockey wheel are partly melted and fused materials spread radially in a gap (9) formed by the coupling body and the jockey wheel. An independent claim is included for a joint structure for axial joining of a jockey wheel with a coupling body by friction welding.
