A method is provided for use in a push to talk type service in which a floor required for a client terminal (10) to distribute a media item to at least one other terminal participating with the client terminal (10) in a push to talk type session is managed in dependence upon information relating to the size of that media item. Managing the floor comprises at least one of granting, maintaining, monitoring and releasing the floor. The information may be sent from the client terminal (10) in a message (1) requesting the floor. In response to receipt of the message (1) from the client terminal (10) requesting the floor, the floor is either granted or denied (2) to the client terminal (10) in dependence upon the information. The floor may be denied if the media item is larger than a predetermined size. The information may also be sent to at least one other terminal participating in the session for use in indicating the progress of retrieving the media item during the session and/or for allocation of memory for storing the media item. The push to talk type service may be a push to talk over cellular (PoC) service. The push to talk type service may be a general conferencing service.
