A display device for displaying an image in response to an inputted image signal and a display method are provided to perform an image process adaptively in response to the image signal and improve image quality with reduced energy consumption. An image processing unit(110) changes a frame rate of an inputted image signal and outputs the changed image signal. A display unit(120) displays an image on the basis of the image signal outputted by the image processing unit. A motion evaluating unit(130) evaluates a motion change quantity between frames of the image signal inputted in the image processing unit. A control unit(140) controls the image processing unit to adjust a change quantity of the frame rate of the image signal according to the motion change quantity evaluated by the motion evaluating unit.
