Negative active material for rechargeable lithium battery, method of preparing the same, and rechargeable lithium battery including the same

Negative active materials for rechargeable lithium batteries are provided. The negative active materials include secondary particles including assemblies of primary particles. The primary particles include a compound represented by the formula, Li x M y V z O 2+d , wherein 0.1 ‰ x ‰ 2.5, 0 ‰ y ‰ 0.5, 0.5 ‰ z ‰ 1.5, 0 ‰ d ‰ 0.5, and M is a metal selected from Al, Cr, Mo, Ti, W, Zr, and combinations thereof. The negative active materials for rechargeable lithium batteries provide rechargeable lithium batteries with excellent cycle-life characteristics.
