A method and an apparatus for controlling the VM(Velocity Modulation) of a CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) TV are provided to display an image on an external peripheral part of a screen clearly in a slim CRT TV. An Hsync detecting unit(407) detects a provided Hsync signal and converts the detected Hsync signal into a digital signal. A correction value mixer unit(409) resets a period between the Hsync signals converted into the digital signals as a horizontal pixel number of a screen of a CRT TV. A VM correction value output unit(411) generates a VM correction value to increase a signal level value successively to be moved from a central pixel position to both last pixel positions on the basis of the horizontal pixel number. A control unit adds the generated VM correction value and relatively increases a velocity of an electronic beam which arrives at both last pixels of the screen when adjusting the velocity of the electronic beam provided toward a shadow mask.
