An airbag apparatus is provided to prevent a center portion of an airbag cushion from being abruptly deployed by clamping the center portion for a predetermined time when gas is supplied to the airbag cushion by an inflator. An airbag apparatus comprises a support plate(130) and an airbag case(110). The airbag case is coupled with the support plate to form a space therein. An airbag cushion(120) is inserted into the space and attached to the support plate. An inflator(150) is installed at the support plate to supply gas to the airbag cushion. A clamper(170) is coupled with the support plate to clamp a center portion of the airbag cushion. When the airbag cushion receives gas from the inflator, a lateral side of the airbag cushion is inflated for a predetermined time and then the center portion clamped by the clamper is inflated.
