A plasma-display-panel driving method is provided with a plurality of sub-fields in one field period. The sub-fields are comprised of a writing period during which writing discharges take place selectively at discharge cells and a discharge maintaining period during which maintaining discharges are carried out repeatedly in proportion to brightness weights at the writing discharge cells. In the maintaining period, a period is provided between the last maintaining pulse and the maintaining pulse immediately before the last to hold a pair of display electrodes at a base potential. Further, after a voltage to generate the last maintaining discharge is supplied to a pair of display electrodes, a time interval is set in response to a turn-on rate of discharge cells in the sub-field and a voltage is applied to a pair of display electrodes to ease a potential difference between a pair of display electrodes. This method carries out stable writing discharges without increase of voltages necessary for writing discharges and reduces crosstalk.
