A portable terminal having a touch screen and a function display method are provided to configure an input unit of the portable terminal as the touch screen, so as to display a user interface for a message confirm menu and a music listening menu on the touch screen. A memory(111) stores at least one user interface. An input unit(105) has a touch screen(109), and selects a menu provided from a portable terminal. If the menu selected from the input unit is a message confirm menu, a controller(103) extracts contents of a message and a user interface for processing the message from the memory, and displays the extracted information on the touch screen. The user interface for processing the message includes a key which displays reply writing, delivering, deleting, storing, protection setup functions for the message.
